Newsletter December 2025
Hello Young Scientists,
as we are nearing the end of the year rapidly, we wanted to give all of you a final update, before getting into the holiday spirit.
If you haven’t submitted an abstract for the DGMS in Leipzig yet and wish to do so, the deadline was extended until the 8th of January. We will again host our Young Scientist evening, this time with a career panel discussion and of course food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. Click on the banner below for the conference website.

DGMS Membership Fees
We have recieved word from the DGMS, that a lot of you have not uploaded proof of your student status yet. Please check your Spam folders if you have recieved a message from the DGMS treasurer Martin Zeller and send him the documents as soon as possible. This is required for all applications for travel grants in 2026 and failing to do so could result in paying the regular membership fee of 50€ (instead of 20€).
E-Poster Webinar 30th January
With the DGMS Leipzig Team introducing the E-Poster sessions for the first time, we wanted to give all of you the opportunity to test this new format beforehand. On Friday 30th January, we will host another Webinar where 16 people can present their E-Posters and recieve feedback on this. Afterwards, you will have another week to make some final tweaks, before the upload deadline. We hope many of you will attend and present your awesome data. And even if you don’t attend the DGMS, this is also a really good opportunity to try out a flash presentation, so don’t miss it! Registration is already possible even without a final poster so hit the button below or check our website.
IMSC Lyon 2026 Registration
After the announcement of our IMSC event plans together with our sister-organisations in France and the Netherlands, we hope many of you are planning to attend! The IMSC is one of the biggest mass spectrometry conferences in the world and with it being in Lyon it is quite close to home next year. In additon, the DGMS features 800€ in travel grants for 50 students to go there (see our travel grant website), which should cover a large chunk of the conference costs. Registration for the conference starts on the 15th of december, so be sure to sign up!
Christmas Special 2025
We did save the best thing for last of course. In recent years, we always had a christmas special featuring publications from young scientists. However, we felt that it was difficult for students and early PhDs to participate in this, since they typically have no papers yet. For this reason, the whole month of december, we will do a meme contest, where all of you can share two of your best memes about your own experiences in research, academia and life as a PhD. We will share the best ones with the community and let you all vote on the best meme of 2025!

Happy holidays and all the best for 2026!
